Florida State Parks Celebrate Literacy in September
September 2009 will feature the third annual Literacy Month at each of Florida’s 160 state parks. Free admission to State Parks with one of the following items;
Promoting literacy at Florida’s state parks creates an appreciation for both reading and the environment that visitors can take back to the classroom and community. September’s Literacy Month is the perfect time for all park visitors, including families and schools, to experience resource-based recreation while enhancing the mind through literacy events.

Summer Reading Club
Have you logged in any of the books that you have read this summer? There's just one week left to log your books for the Summer Reading Club. All elementary school age need to have at least 6 books and the Read to Me children need at least 20 books logged by July 25th to participate in our Family Celebrations. We want everyone to complete. Please visit us at the library or online to get your books logged.

The Summer Reading Club is going retro! Climb aboard our magic time machine as we travel back in time to the 1960's! Your Groovologist, Ms. Wendy, is going to show you a dyn-o-mite time! There will be dancing, a story and some truly far-out crafts! Don't miss it; it's going to be outta sight!For elementary-age children!

Read Around the Bases Cards
The Reading with the Rays: Read your way to the Ballpark cards are now available at your local library or print one out. Then start reading your way around the bases.
Rules of the Game
Choose your favorite books or your favorite section of the St. Petersburg Times to read over the summer. As you read, track your hours by rounding the bases and collect Rays rewards along the way.
When you read enough hours to get on first base, ask your parent/guardian to initial your card and bring it to your local library. The librarian will sign your card and give you a reading reward. Round the bases by reading a total of 24 hours this summer and receive a ticket to a Rays game!
On the back of the card, keep track of your favorite books and articles you read. You can write about what you have read at the St. Petersburg Times NIE Blogging Zone at blogs.tampabay.com/nie and click on "2009 Reading with the Rays."
You can also use the same books for the Pasco County Library System's Be Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Club. You can log your books at pascolibraries.org/kidshome.shtml and click on Express Yourself. Then you can cut and paste your opinions about the book in "Borrower Reviews" for the book in the library's new catalog. If you need help feel free to call on your Pasco County Librarians.
Join us at the Land O' Lakes Library on Friday, June 5th at approximately 1:00 p.m. when Raymond and the Rays Street Team visit the library. Bring your cameras.

Make Summer Reading Count
It’s easy!!! Registration for the summer reading club starts Tuesday, May 26. You can begin reporting the books you’ve read June 6th. Earn weekly prizes for the books you read. If you read and report on all your books by July 25th, you become a Pasco County Library System Star Reader. Star Readers will be invited to a final party with certificates and rewards for all!
Did you know that you could use the same books read for the Be Creative or Express Yourself Summer Reading Club for more rewards and prizes elsewhere???

Join together with other kids from your school to read as many books as you can over the summer. Here you can log the number of minutes you spend reading and keep track of how other schools are doing. Visit the library weekly for fun reading programs with crafts and games. Have a fun filled summer at your library. All the excitement starts the week of June 7 and runs through the week of July 19. It’s free!!!

Mark Your Calendars - Summer Reading Club Sign-up
Registration for the Summer reading program begins May 26th and reporting on your books starts June 6th.
To register, fill out a reading club contract in the library or online at pascolibraries.org. You only need to read 6 books by July 25th. If you read more than that, you become a Pasco County Library System Star Reader.
Each library will be sending information about the parties and upcoming programs through email. Please make sure our email does not go into your spam folder.
All who read and report on 6 books will be invited to a final party with certificates and rewards!
We’ll be offering a variety of programs and giveaways all summer, so pick up a list of events and drop in as often as possible.
